A Mourning Dove has been trying to build a nest in our garage, atop the mechanism that opens the garage door. There’s a motor in that housing, as well as a radio receiver, and two light bulbs that come on when the garage door opens or closes.

Building a nest in a garage is not a good idea. The door is closed most of the time, so  mother Mourning Dove can’t get to the nest. I’ve torn the nest down about five or six times, but she persistently continues to rebuild. Finally, I posted a sign in big bold black lettering, right next to the opener box-life mechanism, “Please don’t build a nest here.” To no avail. I surmise that Mourning Dove parents do not teach English to their young’uns.

Finally, Mrs. Mourning Dove had built a nest behind the basketball backboard. It’s an ideal spot, sheltered from the rain and strong winds that we have experienced lately.
